I know a lot of you are getting tired of how political this pandemic has become. But honestly, I’m seeing that regardless of country, state, or province, it’s tearing apart our ideas of what our society has stagnated into. It’s been a long time coming — we knew a crisis would come. It’s always “when,” not “if.” And this is only number one. The climate crisis is still looming in the next coming decade.

This lopsided facade of capitalism without restraint or social humility is over. It’s done. Stocks crashed. Oil crashed. Politicians are scrambling back to socialism or watching as people are dying en masse. This is an opportunity to make real, lasting, POSITIVE change in the world! To push for social democracy and take care of everyone by reforming our society! To do the right thing. To help everyone through massive systemic reforms for things like vote reform into MMP voting, nationalization of essential industries (including communications and natural resources), and rebuilding of our social security networks.

You can protest it because you’re privileged, or unaffected by things like poverty, racism, sexism, and disability. Because you can afford to pay your way, or turn your head and ignore it while others can’t. But you’re just going to look like an asshole when we make things better for everybody. And I’d prefer for the revolution to be rooted in kindness, peaceful change, mutual benefit for all, and coexistence, rather than rabid masses of rioters literally breaking down the doors of millionaires and billionaires (and even just those they may *THINK* are more well off) and slaughtering them in the streets with guillotines a la the French Revolution.

People will remember your choices, words, and actions. I am definitely far from perfect, but I’m also not afraid to stand up and tell you what I believe in. That what I believe is moral, and just. I want to help people, not just me or my buddies. You? Well, that’s entirely your choice. Will you know you helped us make the world a better place? Or did you only look out for you and yours? How are you actively helping humanity right now? Do you want to be part of the problem, or part of the solution?

When we talk about funding social services like education, medicine, and paying ALL workers a living wage, are you nodding your head in agreement with us after watching the last 40 years of our social systems being gouged and bled dry? Because you could pay for better education, healthcare, or personal supports yourself? Or are you trying to protest, “debate” or argue with us that we shouldn’t help people because you don’t want to give up your privileges?

Time to wake up, folks. You can’t bury your heads in the sand and check out on this one. People are dying. And many of those deaths could have been avoided. Hell, hundreds of thousands of deaths for all sorts of reasons over the past several decades could have been avoided. Suicides, famine, sickness, institutionalized racism, sexism, ableism, poverty, etc. The list goes on for all the ways that we have failed our most vulnerable citizens of the world. The strong and secure must protect those who are struggling -temporary weakness or not.

You can help folks like me make things better for EVERYONE, or you can show us your true colours by fighting to keep the status quo. I mean, this is your chance to change. This is my chance to change. And this is also your chance to stand up for what is right and moral and good. So… What will you choose? There’s a god-damn global pandemic on! If you think things are going back to status quo after this is all over, well… I can’t fault you for naïveté!

Will you help us help everyone? Or will you be the villain we write about in the history books?

Your choice!
